Who qualifies

Six checks. All plain.

You need to clear all six. We tell you which one didn't pass — and what to do about it.

Nigerian resident, 21+

You must be at least 21 years old and resident in Nigeria, with a valid Nigerian mobile number registered in your name.

02

BVN + NIN, both verified

A valid Bank Verification Number and National Identification Number — both verified to match your full name and date of birth.

03

Vehicle owner (or authorised)

You own the vehicle being repaired, or hold a notarised authorisation from the registered owner if it belongs to a family member or employer.

A Nigerian bank account in your name with at least 3 months of statement history. We support all 25+ commercial banks.

05

No unresolved default

06

A verified workshop

A workshop in our verified network — or a workshop willing to be vetted by us within 24 hours.

What you'll need

You can have everything below ready in about ten minutes. We pull bank statements automatically once you authorise — most applicants don't have to upload anything heavier than a photo.

  • Your BVN and NIN (we tokenise both — never stored in plain text)
  • A photo of your driver's licence (or international passport)
  • A liveness selfie taken inside the app
  • Vehicle plate number, make, model and year
  • A verified workshop selected during the application
  • Last 3 months of bank statements (we pull these via Mono once you authorise)

Median application time on our side is 4 minutes 12 seconds. The slowest part is always typing the plate number.

If a check doesn't pass

Not today > not ever.

Most "declines" are timing issues. Here's what each one means and how to come back.

!

Below 21 or unverifiable BVN

You can apply once your BVN is updated with NIMC. Updates typically clear in 24–48 hours.

!

No bank account, or one less than 3 months old

Open an account at any commercial bank in Nigeria, run it for three statement cycles, and reapply.

!

Active default on regulated credit

Settle the default first, request a credit-report update from CRC or FirstCentral, then reapply after 30 days.

!

Workshop not on our verified list

Send their phone number and address to workshops@montaripay.com — we will vet them within 24 hours, free.

Common questions

Before you apply.

The four questions our customer-success team gets most often.

How much can I borrow?

Anywhere from ₦25,000 to ₦5,000,000 — sized to your repayment capacity. Most first-time borrowers are approved between ₦150,000 and ₦600,000.

Does a soft credit check affect my score?

No. Our pre-qualification is a soft check that does not appear on your credit report. Only a full application after you accept an offer is recorded by the bureaux.

I drive for Bolt or Uber — does that count?

Yes. Ride-hailing income is one of the strongest signals we look at. Make sure your driver-app statements are easy to access — you may be asked to share them.

Can I apply on behalf of my spouse / parent?

Only if you are the registered owner of the vehicle, or hold notarised authorisation. Loans are issued in the name of the borrower, not the owner.

Looks like you're eligible?

Start the application — the soft pre-check tells you in under 90 seconds whether we'll fund you, with no impact on your credit score.
