About the role

You'll work alongside our Head of Risk on the credit policy that gates every disbursement. We currently approve 78% of applicants; your job is to push that number while keeping the 30-day default rate where it is (under 2%).

Day-to-day, you live in SQL and a Jupyter notebook — but you also spend a Wednesday a month at a workshop, watching what actually happens when a repair quote turns into a real bill.

What you'll do

  • Build, monitor and tune scoring features — bank-statement signals, BVN history, vehicle data, workshop track-record.
  • Write the weekly portfolio review: vintage curves, segment performance, exception drivers.
  • Run A/B-style policy experiments and write them up so the rest of the team understands the trade-off.
  • Own one piece of the recovery pipeline (e.g. early-stage delinquency outreach script).
  • Stay a sceptic — you push back when product wants to over-extend an offer.

What we're looking for

  • 3+ years in credit, lending, or quantitative analytics — bank, fintech, or insurance.
  • Strong SQL. Comfortable in Python (pandas, scikit-learn) or R.
  • You can read a regulatory letter (CBN, FCCPC, NDPC) and translate it into a product change.
  • A real point of view on credit — and the humility to update it when the data disagrees.

Bonus points

  • Familiar with NCRA / CRC bureau data formats.
  • Built a champion-challenger framework before.
  • Speaks one Nigerian language fluently — you will use it in workshop visits.

The team

Reports into Ngozi Okeke (Head of Risk). Pairs with the backend team, head of operations, and general counsel.
